Twelve Espers, Twelve signs

 You might have noticed a few similarities between the zodiac signs and the Final Fantasy 12 Espers even if it was the obvious one, Zodiark who's name sounds very similar to Zodiac. There are 13  Espers in  Final Fantasy 12 putting Zodiark aside each Esper symbolizes one of the 12 signs of the Zodiac.

Who's who?

Belias is Aries.  At first glance this might not seem very likely but Aries and Belias have several similarities. Aries is represented by the ram and its Zodiac element is Fire. Belias has ram horns in both heads. Also, Belias has fire power

Chaos is Taurus. Taurus is represented by a bull and so does Chaos. Chaos' Horns (both on his head and on his shoulders) are bull horns. Chaos also has a tail which also resembles that of a bull.

Zalera is Gemini. Gemini is represented by the twins. Heres how, a person born under the Gemini sign is said to have "double" personalities which are usually represented by a darker figure and a lighter figure just like Zalera.

Zeromus is Cancer. In the Zodiac Cancer is represented by the crab. Zeromust has some features like his left hand that is indeed a crab's claw. Not only that but Zeromus just like a crab is inside a shell as can be seen in his limit break where he opens his shell like body to shoot  his enemies.

Hashmal is Leo. Leo is represented by a lion. If you look closely at Hashmal face you will notice the similarities between him and a lion. Another similarity   is the fact that Leo's Zodiac element is fire. In Hashmal's limit break he ascends from the fiery underground to deliver his burning attack to his enemies.

Ultima is Virgo. Virgo is represented by a virgin or a female angel. Ultima is the Esper who is one of the easiest to identify. Ultima has angelic wings and is a female. Also Ultima's description tells that Ultima was made by the gods to guide souls to heaven just like an angel.

 

Exodus is Libra. The Zodiac sign Libra is represented by a scale. Exodus stands in back of an object that resembles a scale, it moves like one too as you can see in his limit break. Of course their similarities don't stop there, Libra has the title of the "judge"out of the 12 signs. Exodus' story reveals that he is a judge. Exodus was originally made by the gods to judge the worth of everything in his world.

Cuchulainn is Scorpio. Scorpio is represented by a scorpion. This might sound really strange because Cuchulainn does not resemble a scorpion. Cuchulainn's limit break is what shows that he represents Scorpio because he opens his back and takes out this tail that looks a lot like a scorpions tail.

Shemhazai is Sagittarius. Sagittarius is represented by a centaur  with a bow and arrow. Now Shemhazai does not look like a centaur but she in indeed half human half horse like a centaur. As for the bow and arrow Shemhazai might not show this in the same way but Shemhazai's limit break  reveals that she shoots from her arms which she turns into objects that strongly resemble crossbows.

Adrammelech is Capricorn. Yes, he looks like a dragon and he has wings but lets look closely at his face. Like Capricorn Adrammelech looks like a goat. Adrammelech's face isn't his only similarity to his Zodiac equivalent he has  Straight horns and a goatee which are the trademarks of a goat.

Famfrit is Aquarius. This can be obvious because of the pitcher Famfrit carries is the same type of pitcher that is used to represent the Aquarius sign. Not only that, the Aquarius sign is represented by a pitcher that pours water. Its equivalent can be seen in Famfrit's limit break which shows him pouring a cascade on his enemies with his giant pitcher.

Mateus is Pieces. Pieces is represented by two fish and Mateus is a fish-like creature that who lives under water. In it's limit break Mateus swims and attacks from underwater throwing its spear.
